Recommended Lenten Practices:
Take something out of your life: the old pious custom is still encouraged where you give something up that you use with some frequency and you refrain from that for the entire season of Lent. This is a penitential practice where you give up something in your life to show that God is more important than other things that you care about. Fasting is strongly recommended in the Scriptures as a way of decreasing our dependency on the things of this world and increasing our dependency on God.
Add something to your life: Lent is a good time to add something spiritual to your life. Try committing to a set time of prayer each week or day, or commit to reading the Scriptures or praying the Rosary or some other form of prayer. This concept of adding time for spiritual practices allows us to increase the time we give to God and helps purify us of what separates us from Him. This is what Lent is all about: turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel
